Position: Program Coordinator - Vital Village

Department: Pediatrics Administration

Schedule: 40 Hours, Days


The Program Coordinator will oversee day-to-day programmatic and administrative coordination of a two-year community-based participatory research effort that partners with community and parent leaders to co-design a community-powered food system framework that integrates trauma-informed systems and community leadership building practice. Key deliverables include supporting community leader and partner outreach and engagement; coordinating meetings, virtual events, and trainings; ensuring quality meeting documentation and follow up; managing virtual meeting technology and communications platforms; conducting field research, online scans, and literature reviews; regular resource curation and dissemination; summarizing program data to inform ongoing iterative improvement process, and support with developing a comprehensive narrative case study and accompanying capacity building tools. The Program Coordinator will play a key role in maintaining strong communications with Vital Village's collaborative network of cross-sector partners, as well as supporting planning and implementation of organizational-wide strategies for community participatory research across Vital Village initiatives and studies. The Program Coordination will also support broader capacity building efforts by providing quality and timely resources and tools, including regular programming (webinars, blog posts, etc.), regular resource scanning and curation, and other related activities.


Community-Based Participatory Research Coordination

  • Coordinates planning and implementation activities with community partners for a community-based participatory research project focused on community-powered food system, healing and resiliency, and community leadership building practice
  • Conducts regular online scans and field research for documentation of promising practices, resources, and tools
  • Maintain strong communications with community partner and stakeholder relationships within the fields of community food systems policy and practice, community-centered co-design, parent leadership development, and participatory research

Communications Strategy and Content Development

  • Contributes to writing and dissemination of lessons learned to diverse audiences through visual narrative and storytelling products, including a comprehensive narrative case study, accompanying capacity building tools, multi-media stories, reports, blog posts, handouts, and website content
  • Supports regular communications engagement activities in collaboration with Vital Village staff through the organization's various social media and communications platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Constant Contact, etc) in order to provide regular and timely information to community partners

Meeting/Event Coordination and Documentation

  • Manages project meeting scheduling and documentation, including communications, invitations, notetaking and follow up, and management of meeting/video conferencing and technology platforms
  • Supports planning and implementation of project national stakeholder convening(s), annual Vital Village National Community Leadership Summit and other large-scale cross-team events
  • Manages upkeep of project management and file organization tools, including Basecamp, Google Drive systems, and other designated Boston Medical Center file sharing tools


Bachelor's degree required. A Master's Degree in Public Health or related field preferred.


  • Minimum of one year of experience coordinating community-based participatory research or participatory research action projects with grassroots partners and community leaders within food system, public health, education, and/or other community-based settings
  • Experience engaging food system, public health, education, and policy systems and social service, legal advocacy, and community-based programs


  • Strong previous experience and knowledge of community food system programs, practice, and policy, as well as trauma informed, healing-centered frameworks and parent organization and leadership models
  • Strong previous experience with community-based participatory research, mixed methods data analysis and writing, community outreach and engagement, group facilitation, community organizing, communications, and event, meeting, and training coordination
  • Experience or familiarity with language and technology justice strategies
  • Collaborative leadership style, adaptability, growth mindset, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral communications skills and writing ability, including experience writing narrative reports, case studies, toolkits, and other accessible communications tools
  • Advanced training and/or experience in anti-racism practice and facilitating dialogues focused on structural racism, bias, identity, racial justice, and equity
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations. Strong ability to work with diverse multisector partners and grassroots organizations. Commitment to racial equity and strengths-based community capacity building
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Power Point, and Excel and video/meeting conferencing software is essential. Familiarity with web-based platforms and website design is preferred
