The Vital Village Community Engagement Network is a collective impact initiative to improve child well-being and prevent abuse and neglect. BMC Vital Village works to optimize child wellbeing through by aligning systems of care and education in early childhood. Vital Village achieves this mission by mobilizing a collective investment from residents, community organizations and institutions, using a strengths-based and trauma-informed paradigm.
The Program Manager will oversee day-to-day management of the Boston Vital Village Network, including supporting program design, content development, communications and digital media strategy, collaboration among network partners, and operationalizing community capacity building initiatives to promote child wellbeing and improve equity in child health and educational outcomes. The Program Manager plays a key role in building Vital Village's collaborative network of cross-sector partners. The Program Manager plays a central role in facilitating a process with partners to co-design meetings, innovative approaches, and strategies to strengthen community capacity building efforts. Key deliverables include management of Vital Village communications materials and strategy, cultivating and strengthening partner and stakeholder relationships, documenting and disseminating lessons learned across the network to diverse audiences. The Program Manager will collaborate with staff to develop continuous and quality improvement processes, manage monitoring activities, and support in preparation of research reports, progress reports and funding proposals. The Program Manager oversees weekly team meetings and office administration, including financial and supervises program and administrative staff, and supports office administration and financial management. The Program Manager oversees the AmeriCorps VISTA program and supervises the VISTA members.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project & Communications Management
- Manages the co-design, planning, implementation, and budget monitoring activities to support the Boston Vital village Network. This includes Network support coalitions, task forces, and workgroups that focus on addressing inequities in child and maternal health, education, and work to improve mental wellbeing, breastfeeding, and the engagement of fathers. Develops project timelines/work plans and tracking and monitoring tools to support implementation. Monitors project budget expenses, and oversees preparation of regular progress reports to track completion of milestones and annual objectives.
- Collaborates with staff and Network partners to manage communications and digital/media strategy to elevate the reach and impact of Vital Village. Facilitates development and dissemination of content to ensure aligned messaging and alignment of project goals and deliverables. Develops written and visual stories and materials to convey mission and project impact to diverse audiences and key partners. Supports staff in managing technology and digital communications platforms. This includes key a monthly newsletter, regular blog series, annual reports, policy briefs, and summaries of signature community events.
- Support staff in providing timely and quality capacity building support to network members. Develops process tools and protocols to facilitate ongoing communication and collaborative work. Supports staff to track partner requests.
Program Planning & Quality Improvement
- Collaborate with Vital Village staff and partners to co-design signature events, meetings, workshops trainings and other complementary capacity building engagements. Provides support with agenda design, meeting facilitation, and follow up implementation. Includes active engagement in co-designing, planning, implementing and assessing community meetings and large events and convenings, such as the Vital Village National Community Leadership Summit.
- Co-develop and maintain team processes and protocols to implement project activities according to established project timelines. Develop internal monitoring and quality improvement tools.
- Support and manage staff to complete regular program documentation activities to track progress and successes.
Strategic Planning & Growth Development
- Cultivate new and strengthen existing relationships with strategic local and regional partners and stakeholders that facilitate mission alignment and collaborative efforts. Represent Vital Village through presentations and participation at external partner meetings, convenings, and other relevant settings.
- Collaborate with research and senior staff to develop internal and external research priorities as well as co-develop strategies for cross-sector capacity building initiatives to support Vital Village goals and emerging program areas.
- Work with senior staff to identify funding opportunities, engage prospective partners and collaborators, and prepare grant proposals.
- Supervises support staff (e.g., Program Coordinators, Program Assistants, Student Interns) and AmeriCorp VISTA members, including training and onboarding, delegating tasks, and overseeing daily activities.
- Collaborate with senior staff to support staff-wide professional development opportunities.
- Other monitoring of administrative, financial and other coordination activities as implemented by program staff.
- Performs other duties as required.

Bachelor's degree required. A Master's Degree in Public Health, Journalism, Policy, Urban Planning, Nonprofit Leadership or a related field preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
None required. Training in participatory leadership and facilitation models including: Technology of Participation, The Art of Hosting, Parent Café, or human centered design methods is a plus. Familiarity with community-based participatory approaches and language justice models also an advantage.
- Minimum of three years of experience in managing projects and operations in public health, education, and/or working with underserved populations in school settings, or social service or community-based settings
- Experience engaging public health, education, and policy systems and social service, legal advocacy, and community-based programs
- Collaborative leadership style, adaptability, growth mindset, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-focused, management of timelines, effectively cultivate growth of others
- Excellent oral communications skills and writing ability, including experience writing newsletters, blogs, group communications, and reports
- Previous experience with group facilitation, community outreach, community organizing, human-centered design, grant writing, communications, and program management
- Bi-lingual capability is an asset to this position (Spanish, Haitian-Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Portuguese-Creole)
- Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.
- Commitment to health equity and strengths-based community capacity building.
- Knowledge of MS Word, Power Point, and Excel and video/meeting conferencing software is essential.
